BF56VThis Open embroidery foot with non-stick sole # 56 is multi-talented, ideal for sewing on appliqués and decorative trims or elastic, as well as for Richelieu embroidery.

It’s also suitable for circular embroidery, and for sewing lines, curves and corners. The practical non-stick sole ensures smooth feeding, even over “sticky” materials, making it perfect for leather.
The large wedge-shaped channel under the sole allows easy feeding of the fabric, so the presser foot glides smoothly over dense stitch formations. The open toe configuration also guarantees a good view of the sewing area.

Episode 5 of The Great British Sewing Bee used leather and they’ve given us a clip on how to make a clutch bag using leather. Bernina has put together its own tutorial on how to make a clutch bag – we think it’s even better than the Sewing Bee one, and even easier using the Foot 56.

Don’t forget we have 20% discount on the Bernina Foot 56V Teflon Open Embroidery Foot  and Bernina Foot 56 Teflon for April only.

If you’re sewing leather (or any other material where pin holes may show) then don’t forget to order your binding clips, as used in the clutch bag tutorial.

Simple binding clips or Clover Wonder Clips are a great alternative to pins, especially when working with heavy weight fabrics, piles, and vinyls. Wonder Clips can hold layered sections of sewing projects such as handle connectors to handbags and piping without distortion. They will hold quilt binding while sewing and are so easy to find when dropped on the floor.
